What the hazard is

A sudden loss of braking assist while driving could increase the risk of a crash.

What to do

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by letter from Toyota Australia, asking them to contact a Toyota dealership to arrange replacement of the vacuum pump free of charge. Owners who require more information can contact their preferred Toyota Dealer or contact the Toyota Recall Assist Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm AEST).

Defect

Affected vehicles are equipped with a vacuum pump that provides vacuum for the brake booster operation. A lubrication passage inside the vacuum pump may have been compromised during manufacture. This may cause an internal failure of the vacuum pump leading to illumination of warning lights and alerts, and/or resulting in a sudden loss of braking assist.
