Recall check / REC-004886

Volvo C30 DRIVe

Published

What the hazard is

Increased brake pedal force to be used by the driver.

What to do

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by letter. Owners are advised to contact their authorised Volvo dealer to have the brake vacuum hose replaced, and a protective mesh collar added on the vacuum line for future protection.

Defect

The cover panel on top of the engine can chafe against the vacuum pump and the brake booster, and in some cases this condition may lead to a vacuum leak in the brake booster system. If this chafing condition should occur, depending on the size of the hole on the vacuum hose, it may lead to a gradual reduction of brake booster assistance while braking i.e. a hard pedal brake.
